Talk to Vincent van Gogh thanks to artificial intelligence
Jumbo Mana

As an addendum to the “Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise” exhibition, Musée d’Orsay invites visitors to converse with Van Gogh, thanks to the “Hello Vincent” application developed by Jumbo Mana, a startup specializing in generative AI connected with human behaviors, which brings virtual characters to life, making them fully intelligent and autonomous.

The “Hello Vincent” experience is a generative Artificial Intelligence project connected with human behaviors and language. It enables interaction with the painter’s artificially created intelligence, drawing on a corpus of some 900 letters in which Van Gogh talks about his life and work.

It provides a unique, personalized encounter between visitors and Vincent van Gogh. Using a microphone connected to an interactive terminal, the application enables visitors to discuss one-to-one with the artist while he’s painting his famous Wheatfield with Crows. The scientific approach taken to the experience enables obtainment of Vincent van Gogh’s AI as close as possible to his personality and knowledge, in a way that’s as fun as it’s educational.

This state-of-the-art technological program, developed by the startup Jumbo Mana in collaboration with Dr. Wouter van der Veen, an art historian specializing in Van Gogh, was funded by BPI France and the Grand-Est region, with the support of the University of Paris-Saclay and the Institute for Development and Resources in Intensive Scientific Computing (IDRIS) for access to the Jean-Zay supercomputer.

Thanks to the partnership with Musée d'Orsay, the project has transitioned from academic research to applied research with immediate interaction with visitors. The more questions you ask, the more the AI learns and improves!

Freely available in open access, the “Hello Vincent” terminal awaits you at the exit to the exhibition.
