The Répertoire de sculpture française / French Sculpture Census provides an inventory of French sculptures created between 1500 and 1960 conserved in American public collections, museums, historic houses, administrative buildings and public spaces. 7,000 sculptures have already been added and are available to view online, accompanied by documentary resources and files on special cases.
The archive and the library were created before the museum opened to the public, and are reference tools for art historians specialising in the second half of the 19th century. These two entities within the research department are responsible for disseminating and promoting the documentary collections through research projects, and encouraging collaboration with other institutions.The Prix du Musée d'Orsay, is an annual award for the publication of a selected thesis.
