Klostret i Sendomir [The Monastery of Sendomir]

In 18th century Galicia, an aging monk tells two visitors about the dramatic events that shaped his life, and led him to shut himself away in a monastery after killing his unfaithful wife.

In a departure from the brilliant use of landscape for which he was famous, Sjöström here chooses an indoor location whose oppressive atmosphere owes much to the director of photography, Julius Jaenzon. Tora Teje plays the seductive, enigmatic woman at the centre of this drama.
