Mowgli had been taken from his village as a child, and brought up by wolves. When he is found by the villagers, he is faced with the greed of human beings.
The Jungle Book was produced by Alexander Korda, and directed by his brother Zoltan. Zoltan had already produced another film in India with Robert Flaherty, inspired by an episode in one of Rudyard Kipling’s short stories: The Elephant Boy. This first film adaptation of The Jungle Book (produced 25 years before Walt Disney’s version) was conceived as a large picture book with stunning settings and shimmering colours achieved through the skilful use of Technicolor.
