The Picture of Dorian Gray

Albert Lewin

In Hollywood, Albert Lewin was known for his friendships with artists, filmmakers, writers and painters, particularly those of European origin.
This aesthetic sensibility, that he introduced in his screenplays and film productions for MGM, is revealed once again in his adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s novel, as he interweaves subtle influences from music, literature and objects, paintings and sculptures that all contribute to building up the stifling setting of Victorian society.
