The concept is straightforward: a contemporary artist is invited to choose an artwork in the museum collections and present one of his own alongside it. From the resulting dialogue arises the double possibility to perceive the collections in a new light and to make the continued modernity of the years 1848-1914 appear in a different perspective.
Pierre Soulages and Tony Oursler are the first artists invited for this long-term programme. Three photographs by Le Gray for the former, The Studio
by Courbet for the latter will be the objects of this new and contemporary cross-reading.
