This exhibition, presenting the great masters of Impressionism, highlights the innovative aspects of this movement that were crucial to the development of modern art, while emphasising the distinctive characteristics of each of these famous figures.
The Impressionist movement deconstructed the strict rules of Salon art: although the desire to capture on canvas a fleeting moment predominates, it is the human figure that enables artists to explore the world around them swiftly, with an enduring depiction of a world bursting with life. As Zola stated in 1868, "these are painters who love their times (...). Their works are alive because they have taken them from life and they have painted them with all the love they feel for modern subjects.”
