Organised by the Musée d'Orsay and the Réunion des musées nationaux in collaboration with the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, this exhibition commemorates the centenary of Paul Gauguin's death in Atuona in the Marquise Islands on May 8, 1903. Centred on the artist's two stays in the Pacific and on his masterpiece Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? (Boston, Museum of Fine Arts), this event featuring some two hundred and twenty pieces offers a new perspective on Gauguin's Polynesian itinerary through the confrontation of his paintings, sculptures, graphic works and manuscripts with some thirty Oceanic objects and some forty photographs of the time. These complementary approaches allow a new perception of the work of an artist who in many respects was at the origin of many artistic trends of the 20th century.

The exhibition is now over.
