Drawn from the Musée d'Orsay and Musée de l'Orangerie collections of Renoir’s works - amongst the richest in the world -, this exhibition presents over one hundred paintings, drawings, sculptures, pastels and documents, from all stages of the painter’s career.
From his early Realist works in Paris, in the late 1860s, to the monumental Bathers of his later years, ten chronological and thematic sections trace the main developments in the work of a painter who was constantly searching, a painter who was both an Impressionist, overturning the rules of representation, and a classical painter who loved the great tradition.
The Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette is on display in Japan for the first time, and has its own section exploring the issues in this manifesto painting, which caused such a sensation when it was first exhibited in 1877, and which today is one of the jewels of the Musée d’Orsay.
This ambitious exhibition has been organised to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Nikkei Group.

The exhibition is now over.
