Nineteen lunchtime concerts showcase young musicians. While retaining the three areas of French chanson, new piano talents and the fruitful exchange with the BBC series New Generation Artists, the programme is enriched by themes prefiguring the bicentenary in 2011 of the birth of Franz Liszt.
The aim of this cycle, which launches the season, is to present a view of the history of music as seen through his transcriptions. From Auber to Zichy, from Bach to Wagner, Liszt's enormous body of transcription includes at least one composer for every letter of the alphabet, and spans a period from the Baroque masters to his contemporaries. Over three seasons, this series will offer an opportunity to experience a tiny part of this history of music according to Franz Liszt.
