La Sylphide, one of Degas’ favourite ballets, revived by Pierre Lacotte in 1972, is the first ballet of the Romantic period. Ethereal ballerinas fluttering in long, diaphanous tutus tell the story of impossible love between a human being and a supernatural creature.

The sets and costumes were designed by the couturier Christian Lacroix.
