Cinderella

A legend in her own lifetime, Pauline Viardot (1821-1910), sister of Maria Malibran, was known throughout Europe not only as a singer, but also as a teacher. Today one aspect of her career remains forgotten and on the centenary of her death, a tribute to her work as a composer is due.
Cinderella … Pauline Viardot held her music salons for almost half a century, but it was to delight her family and artiste friends that she took this theme, a theme already interpreted a thousand times. She wittily puts the grocery shop next to the palace, the trivial with the magical, while not forgetting the special thrill of disguise, dancing into the night and the bare feet for the ultimate test.
