In the context of a partnership with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and on the occasion of its 50th birthday, eight of Van Gogh’s paintings, including Portrait of the Artist, The Church in Auvers and Portrait of Dr. Gachet, will be on exceptional loan for the “Van Gogh in Auvers. His final months” exhibition, from May 12th to September 3rd 2023.
According to the terms of the donation made by Paul and Marguerite Gachet, the children of the physician who treated the painter in Auvers, these eight paintings can only be lent to this institution, founded by Vincent van Gogh, the artist’s nephew and Paul Gachet’s friend.
The “Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise. The final months” exhibition will then move to Musée d’Orsay, from October 3rd 2023 to February 4th 2024. Bringing together almost 50 paintings and numerous drawings by the artist, this is the first ever exhibition devoted to his final period. In return, the Van Gogh Museum will be loaning eight masterpieces from the period, including the famous Wheatfield with Crows.
