Conditions of Access to the Library and Archive Centre

Opening hours


  • The Archives will be open to the public by reservation from 19 May at the following times:
    Tuesday to Thursday 9.30am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 5.30pm

  • The library will be open to the public by reservation from 25 June at the following times:
    Tuesday to Thursday from 2pm to 5.30pm.

You can reserve time slots of one hour, either for Archives, or for the Library, or for both facilities.

Which documents would you like to consult and reserve?

For the Archive Centre

For requests to consult the archives, please complete and return the form by email 48 hours before your visit.
General Documentation boxes are freely accessible.

For the Library

You are looking for an artist’s monograph, an exhibition catalogue, a collection or collector, etc:

  • Before your visit, consult the on-line Library catalogue and carefully note the section in the Musée d’Orsay where the work is kept.


Consultation via “public” internet platforms is not possible.

References for Salons and journals can only be consulted on site.

Welcome to the Library and / or Archives

  1. Enter at 9 place Montherlant, on the Seine side
  2. Come with your own material. No office equipment will be made available in the spaces
  3. Wash your hands or use the hydro-alcoholic gel made available to you before entering the Library and / or Archives spaces
  4. Wear a mask throughout the consultation
  5. Sit at the table designated by the person on duty
  6. Places and work surfaces will be cleaned before and after use.
