Musée d'Orsay: Researchers

Since it was created in 2014, the AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions association has worked to make 20th century female artists visible at an international level by producing and posting free, quality, bilingual French and English content on its website in relation to their works.
Thanks to a scientific partnership with the Musée d'Orsay, AWARE is expanding its chronological boundaries by adding forty 19th-century artists online on its website, whose works are represented in the Musée d'Orsay collections. Sarah Bernhardt, Félicie de Fauveau, Rosa Bonheur, Mary Cassatt and also Berthe Morisot will be among the new portraits of artists posted between March and December 2021 on

The archive and the library were created before the museum opened to the public, and are reference tools for art historians specialising in the second half of the 19th century. These two entities within the research department are responsible for disseminating and promoting the documentary collections through research projects, and encouraging collaboration with other institutions. The Prix du Musée d'Orsay, is an annual award for the publication of a selected thesis.
