Oscar Wilde

Gregory Ratoff
1960. English, Fr subtitles

This film tells the story of Oscar Wilde's trial in 1895 when he was sentenced to 2 years hard labour for "gross indecency". It shows the contrasting moral divide in Victorian society, and the aesthetic challenges involved. Robert Morley gave a remarkable performance as Oscar Wilde; he was very familiar with the character, having played him on the stage on numerous occasions in the 1930s.
