How Green Was My Valley

John Ford

As he leaves the house where he was born, Huw Morgan reflects on his childhood spent in a small Welsh mining village at the beginning of the century.

Having taken over a project that was originally intended for William Wyler, Ford made this film his own, filling it with echoes of his own childhood.
The story of the boy's coming of age and his family history looks back nostalgically to a period of idyllic happiness, set against the social changes of the time.
