Musée d'Orsay: Animals and Men

Historiography does not tell us if Darwin was a music lover, but there is no doubt that many musicians were Darwinian. Offering an unusual perspective on the autumn exhibition, this cycle reveals more than the sensitivity towards nature currently associated with composers. A reflection on the world, in this 19th century where man had to give up his central place in the story of creation, so often set to music. But also an element of anxiety, a cry of alarm, when humanity could soon find itself recorded in the catalogue of extinct species.

Throughout the 20th century, the questioning of the humanity of animals and… the animality of men increased. The bestiaries of Ravel, Poulenc, Milhaud and Zavaro are mirrors held up to the damage we inflict on nature. The great baritone Stéphane Degout, , Julien Masmondet et Les Apaches bring this small world together on the Ark.
