In the great tradition of the German masters of the Lied, the baritone Christian Immler accompanied by Helmut Deutsch takes us on a fascinating journey away from the beaten tracks, where no melody is chosen at random. He begins in Vienna with Wolf, at the same time last of the romantics and father of modernity, to take the paths of exile with the composers who, from America or England, will always turn a nostalgic look towards the continent that they had to leave.

Place to the acrobats! Clément Mao-Takacs and the Secession Orchestra celebrate Picasso on the occasion of the exhibition dedicated to the painter, celebrating his love of circus, street arts and avant-garde theater. The painter created the sets, costumes and stage curtain for Erik Satie's famous ballet Parade. And no doubt he looked with tenderness at the outsiders of La Strada and Sorcerer's Love.

French melody naturally has pride of place, with that most French of American pianists and one of our most marvellous singers in the language of Molière – or Maeterlinck, as she is equally famous for her twentieth century baroque. A lesson in poetry, in dramatic intensity, and in what we might call, with a touch of chauvinism, the essence of French art: a class act!

Regarded as the first black star, becoming the muse of Cubist artists and intellectuals, Josephine Baker was a creator in her own right, who invented a musical style and stage presentation just as much as she fashioned an exceptional persona. But it is also the conscience of the century and fighter for freedom that Magali Léger and the Ensemble Contraste bring to life with this show in a class of its own.

Embark with Clément Mao-Tackacs and the Secession Orchestra from Vienna to Mexico City via Paris, the United States and Jamaica! Eleanor Alberga, a Caribbean composer of today, and Silvestre Revueltas, fascinated by Native American rhythms, respond to Zemlinsky, one of the Old World musicians who opened up the most to non-European influences. And Robert Nathaniel Dett, meanwhile, will remember the French sources that have enriched his language and given a unique character to his prodigious spirituals.

Born in Argentina of Slovenian parents, Bernarda Fink has always been fond of bringing together, in her melody programs, the cultures and languages she masters so perfectly. From the island of Ariane to the horizons of the pampas, the waves are agitated and the intoxication of the journey takes us still, between the Greece dear to the Romantics, the mountains of Central Europe and the Spanish exoticism that Wolf dreamed without never knowing it.
