Look, Listen, Read: this essay title by Claude Levi-Strauss could be our motto season after season. Music at the museum achieves its full meaning through the connections it develops with other artistic disciplines, with ideas, with life. The auditorium is thus at the heart of the Musée d'Orsay, a special place of convergence.

Two of the exhibitions this season are accompanied by additional events in the auditorium – one musical, one theatrical. The Spectacular Second Empire invokes song and dance to reveal this flamboyant period to us. Mystical Landscapes introduces us to the musical counterparts of Monet, van Gogh and Kandinsky.
These events are organised into cycles: Lunchtime concerts showcasing up and coming young musicians, evening recitals by leading performers, films and lectures. Two cycles also take a fresh look at a period dear to the museum: Romantic – Authentic, devoted to 19th century sources, and Ian Bostridge, the Ceremony of Innocence, where the great singer draws out the last echoes of the Victorian era in the work of Benjamin Britten.

We look forward to seeing you for a 2016-2017 season filled with emotion, questioning, enjoyment and moments of dazzling brilliance!
