Fabricant de meubles. Apprenti à 14 ans chez Roger Riggin de Kendal. En 1875 apprenti pour Gillows, puis en 1879 travaille chez Samuel Barfield à Leicester. Ouvre sa propre boutique en 1881 à Kendal. Sans marché localement, il repart pour Londres en 1882 où il travaille pour plusieurs maisons. Retourne à Kendal en 1885 et devient aussi formateur, notamment pour Harlod Stabler. En 1912 il est récompensé pour un stand Ideal Home Exhibition à Olympia, tenu avec C.F.A. Voysey et George Walton.
