Gregory Feldmann, baritone; Nathaniel LaNasa, piano
Discover one of the most exciting recitalist duos on the young American scene - no that that’s stopped the baritone from having a successful operatic career, or the pianist from venturing into the most daring experiments in contemporary repertoire and musical theater.
It will come as no surprise to see them choose the most abstract and metaphysical pieces by Schubert, and in Brahms, in which a false simplicity conceals a symbolist prescience. Contrast that with the vigorous sensuality of the French melodies of Ravel and Poulenc, and, for many no doubt, the discovery of the fascinating Liederbuch des Hafis, inspired by the Persian poet to Viktor Ullman in occupied Prague, in those fertile years before the musician's deportation and his murder in the death camps
