JB MILLOT / Jean-Baptiste Millot
Little known outside the Iberian Peninsula, the post-Romantic Catalan melody nevertheless testifies to a fascinating intellectual and artistic world, whose vibrancy came to an abrupt halt with the Spanish Civil War, before young composers took up the torch.
On the other hand, it is mostly women's voices (the immense voices of Victoria de Los Angeles and Teresa Berganza) who have brought the delicate world, full of melancholy but not without humor, of Mompou, Gerhard, and Toldrà to international stages. We will therefore await with all the more interest the young baritone Josep-Ramon Olivé, one of the most promising singers in the country, accompanied on the piano by Tanguy de Willencourt. And one will discover the new melodies written by one of the most brilliant composers of the new Catalan generation, Joan Magrané.
