The Miroirs Étendus Company responds to the Musée d’Orsay’s invitation for a concert to accompany the “Louis Janmot. The Poem of the Soul” exhibition. The work’s dreamlike and (at least at first sight) naïve mysticism provides an opportunity to reflect on the role of music in a century abounding in revolutions and counterrevolutions.
The Miroirs Étendus Company invites the audience to sample France’s romantic music repertoire and transpose such interrogative tension to the well-known work of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. Neotonal, ascetic and ecstatic, his work has also been subject to criticism: the program will try to show how such simplicity should be received today and can arouse true emotions.
