Romain Leleu Sextet · Nuit fantastique (Night of dreams)
The program: Mozart , Schubert, Dvořák, Mancini Monk, Gillespie...

For this concert, the musicians of the Romain Leleu Sextet present a Night of Dreams inspired by Winslow Homer's painting, Summer night. To conjure up the obscurity in which thrilling fantasies can come to life, the group has concocted an eclectic program, a journey through the centuries, from Mozart to Gillespie, from classical music to jazz: a night watch which brushes in turn with the tragic, the disturbing, and the fantastical, with here and there a few romantic, peaceful moments. After the concert, it's back into the light and the halls of the museum, for a presentation of Winslow Homer's painting by a student from the École du Louvre.
Since the dawn of time, the absence of light, the darkness, has fueled countless fears and fantasies, giving rise to tales, myths, and legends - because at night, whether we like it or not, everything changes, and, in the words of Vincent Van Gogh, "the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day", a moment when the imagination and the subconscious take hold and it is easy to let your mind wander off into a dream state.
Night of dreams brings together works inspired by the Thousand and one nights, interspersed with romantic, peaceful moments, from Mozart to Dizzy Gillespie via Schubert, Saint-Saëns, Cole Porter, and even encore Darius Milhaud and his legendary Bœuf sur le Toit, namesake of the famous Parisian cabaret-bar. But beware, as midnight tolls, Satan strikes up the band and Death is on the prowl, with countless weird and wonderful creatures making their rounds - gnomes, vampires, and all kinds of other spirits and monsters...

From Art music to popular music, the Romain Leleu Sextet is like no other musical ensemble, breaking down the barriers separating genres and eras with a flourish. In 2010, Romain Leleu and five fellow musicians from the great French orchestras formed the Romain Leleu Sextet, where trumpet and string quartet merge sonorities in perfect synergy. The ensemble performs an original repertoire of previously-unseen transcriptions which span Baroque music, film scores, and contemporary compositions. Over 13 years, the Romain Leleu Sextet has given hundreds of concerts across the world, and has been invited to play at many festivals in France.
