This Concert de midi trente is an opportunity to take a fresh look at one of the pieces in the Musée d'Orsay collections: Figure, fleur jaune by Odilon Redon. To bring this painting to life, the decidedly militant Trio Haydée invite us on a musical journey through the ages where equality reigns, from Gabriel Fauré, the elder of this program, to young contemporary composer Joséphine Stephenson. After the concert, a student from the École du Louvre will give a presentation of the painting in the halls of the museum.
Figure, fleur jaune: the yellow flower assimilated into the sun immediately gives this painting a feeling of being outside of time, in suspense. It sets the imagination wandering wherever its desire leads it, between the light and the jostling world. From one dawn to the next, this light goes through incredible transformations in color and texture, each inspiring different sensations. The first light of day is full of hope and renewal for Fauré, yet pallid, disturbing, and unclear in Stephenson's work. These half-shades enliven the senses and take on a seductive charm when coupled with water's ever-changing reflections in Rosy Wertheim's pieces. In Gaubert's music, they conjure up the radiance of nature at dusk, when the sky decks itself out in the stars, those glimmering diamonds which are celebrated in Louise Gouirand-Gentil's work. Nature appears drawn to, and enriched by, this flowery sun. This abundance of colors and life is both symbolized and celebrated by the rare water lily, opaque and watery in Koechlin's piece, glittering and insubstantial in Rosy Wertheim's work. The green branch of the little willow tree (Saucecito, Palma verde) by Marguerite Beclard d'Harcourt paints a verdant, lush picture of nature. Humans find their place in this natural world and in song, accompanied by the timeless sound of the lyre.
