7 Years of Reflection is an exhibition that will be putting on public show the major pieces acquired by the state-owned Musée d'Orsay over the last seven years. Such an exhibition enables the public to appreciate the issues involved in the policy of enriching the national collections.
The Musée d'Orsay's annual budget for purchases, to which is added a 16 % levy on tickets to the permanent collections, remains substantial in comparison with many less privileged national institutions, although it still falls well short of the realities of the highly dynamic international market for painting in Orsay's periods.
So these acquisitions reflect both basic collegial arbitrations and the rightness of a policy that has to snap up any judicious opportunities. The aim of this exhibition is to put on public show the pearls that are being added to our institution's displays to delight our visitors.

The exhibition is now over.
