Exhibition at the museum
Jacek Malczewski (1854-1929)
From February 15th to May 14th, 2000
-
After Germany, Denmark, England and Sweden, our exploration of European schools of painting now takes us to Poland. Unknown in France, the painter Malczewski is a singular artist who often represented himself wearing highly eccentric outfits.
In his paintings, he knew how to blend the ordinary, which he painted with a painstaking realism, and fantastic visions drawn from old Polish legends. These strange and powerful paintings are unsettling, and resemble no other.
The exhibition is now over.
