In order to trace the story of this mythical painting, several masterpieces have been gathered: Le Bain turc by Ingres (Musée du Louvre) and Le Sommeil by Courbet (Musée du Petit Palais), which made it possible to evoke the Kalil-Bey collection, of which L'Origine du monde was the hidden masterpiece. The works that covered the painting were also displayed, particularly the panel painted by André Masson. Finally, other paintings by Courbet, among which La Source de la Loue (Buffalo, Albright-Knox Art Gallery) recall his personal and intimate vision associating nature and women.

The exhibition is now over.
