Young women, mothers and children - an intimate and bourgeois world of the end of the 19th century that nervous and elegant graphics were able to render with both passion and mastership. Such was the work of Mary Cassatt. This artist, born in 1844 in the United States discovered French culture very young and was able to overcome the misgivings of her family and come, at the age of 22, and study the paintings of the great masters she admired in European museums.
Noticed by Degas, she participated as early as 1879 in the Salon des Indépendants. Her work was coherent and subtle in the infinite variation of shapes and means around a theme that was voluntarily limited. It confirmed the demand of the impressionists for whom freedom and originality of perception constituted the only real common ground.

The exhibition is now over.
