This spring, the Musée d'Orsay heads to the Baltic, with an exhibition devoted to Symbolism in the art of the Baltic countries. An opportunity to put the spotlight on their musical production, an expression of their national identities.

At the end of the 19th century, Baltic composers were questioning their identity. Čiurlionis (1875-1911) was the first, truly “nationalist” Lithuanian composer. During the Soviet occupation, song, a rare free space accorded to the people of the Baltic countries, became a bastion of resistance, as the Chamber Choir of the Estonian Philharmonic will demonstrate. But to open this cycle, carte blanche is given to the amazing violinist and leader of the Latvian Orchestra, Gidon Kremer, to take us on a journey through his country.
